Danxia landform is a unique type of landscape that “consist of a red bed characterized by steep cliffs” that is mostly found in southeast, southwest and northwest China. Danxia landform looks like karst landscape but it is formed by red-colored sandstones instead of limestones.
“Huoshizhai” literally means “Fire Rock Fortress” in Chinese. Huoshizhai National Geopark locates at Guyuan City and is 15km north of Xiji County. The park is a showcase of Danxia landform but do not expect something like the Zhangye Danxia National Geological Park. When you arrive at the peak of Yuntai Hill (the main route), you can across to the other peak via either a transparent bridge or ziplining. It takes around an hour to finish the main route. After that you can take a shuttle bus and back to the starting point, which is next to the Huoshizhai Museum. It is highly recommended to visit the museum before embarking a hike in the park.
